The Bakers

The Bakers is Jonathan's second show with physical theatre company The Latebloomers.

It is a non-verbal physical comedy centred on the world of the French bakery. The Bakers uses mime, slapstick, and melodrama to tell a story of family breakdown, a rebellious son and the modern world encroaching on a small, traditional family business in the south of France.

The show was created with the support of Bristol Improv Theatre in the UK and the Rumpus Room Adelaide in Australia. It premiered in Australia at the Fringe World Perth Festival, where it received excellent reviews and won the Fringe World Weekly Award for Best Comedy. It then played to sold-out houses at the Adelaide Fringe.

In 2021, Jonathan was granted a special exemption from Australia's Covid travel ban and returned for a sell-out tour of The Bakers at Fringe World Perth, Holden Street Theatre Adelaide and Kangaroo Island.

The company plans to present the show at the Festival Off d'Avignon 2026, with plans to tour France in 2027-28.

Past performances:
Australia: Fringe World Perth 2020 and 2021, Holden Street Theatre Adelaide 2021, Kangaroo Island 2021, The Mill Theatre Adelaide 2020
